The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) servicemember died as a result of a non-battle related injury in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, ISAF said in a brief statement.
In line with its policy, ISAF neither disclosed the exact location of the incident nor the nationality of the victim.
There are US, British and Canadian troops fighting Taliban insurgents in the southern provinces of the country.
Up to 566 foreign soldiers, including 417 Americans and 45 Britons, were killed in 2011.
