KABUL, an official said on Tuesday.
Ali Iftikhari, the Ministry of Martyrs, Disabled, Labour and Social Affairs spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News 80 percent of the trainees had been able to find jobs. The trainings were conducted at more than 42 centres.
The courses included mobile repairs, carpentry, tailoring, carpet-weaving and beekeeping, the official said, adding 30 to 40 percent of the participants were women, five to 10 percent family members of martyrs and the rest unemployed.
A major portion of the $15 million (739 million afghanis) developmental budget allocated to the ministry had been spent on vocational trainings, Iftikhari said. The nature of courses is driven by market demand.
On Tuesday, 300 individuals were given away certificates on completing a tiling training course in Kabul.
Deputy Minister of Martyr, Disabled, Labour and Social Affairs Zubairuddin Karami said the training cost 24 million afs. “Such trainings give the unemployed people a chance to learn skills and find jobs, which are necessary to fight poverty.”
Officials say efforts are on to train another 240,000 people until 2013.
