ISLAMABAD (PAN border on Sunday, officials said.
Local security officials told reporters the CIA-operated drone fired at least six missiles into a house in the Khushali Torikhel village, killing seven individuals.
Having no clear information about the identities of the dead, the officials said the pilotless aircraft targeted a hideout of militants.
A resident of the area, Sohail Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News the house was destroyed in the strike and the bodies mutilated beyond recognition.
North Waziristan is home to insurgents loyal to Hafiz Gul Bahadur. Several drone attacks have been carried out on Bahadur’s bases in the restive area.
Despite protests from the Pakistan government, which calls the drone strikes a violation of its sovereignty, 150 suspected fighters have been killed in 23 air raids in the region this year.
At a meeting with US officials in Aspen, Colorado, this week, Pakistan Ambassador Sherry Rehman demanded an end to drone strikes. But senior Obama administration officials rejected her call.
The ambassador said Pakistan was no longer pursuing its old policy of seeking strategic depth in Afghanistan. “We are not hedging bets on the Taliban,” she insisted.
