KABUL.

It was planned that the US troops would pull out from Afghanistan at the end of 2014, but nearly 10,000 US service members would stay in Afghanistan to combat terrorism and train Afghan security personnel beyond the deadline.

“The US senate’s move to fasten the withdrawal of their troops from Afghanistan was a proper measure and Afghan government welcomes the decision,” Presidential Palace spokesperson Aimal Faizi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Now the Afghan security forces have the ability to maintain security in villages and cities, he said, adding that there would be better security in areas under their control after the International Security Assistance Force hand over security affairs to local troops, he added.

Two days ago, 62 US senators voted for the speedy withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan by end of 2014, while 33 opposed the decision.
