KABUL): Five people were sentenced to 18-year in jail on charges of drug smuggling by a Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF), an official said on Wednesday.
Two of the accused had been arrested with 470 kilograms of opium in the Khanshin district of southern Helmand province, CJTF spokesman Ahmad Khalid Mowahid told Pajhwok Afghan News.
One Kalashnikov, four magazines, 100 bullets and a mobile phone had been seized from them, he said.
Another three individual involved in smuggling alcoholic beverages were also sentenced to 18 years in jail, he added.
