KABUL): Iran has shot down a foreign surveillance drone during war games in southeastern Kerman province, a government-controlled media outlet said on Sunday.
Islamic Republic News Agency reported Revolutionary guards brought down the spy drone on the opening day of the military drill that began on Saturday.
General Hamid Sarkheli, the military exercise spokesman, told the news agency: “We have managed to bring down a drone of the enemy. This has happened before in our country.”
Without explaining which country owned the drone, he added Iran’s special modern warfare task forces were conducting specialised operations for the first time. The Revolutionary guards tested different types of unmanned aerial vehicles.
Last month, Iranian media said the country had seized two miniature US-manufactured surveillance drones.
