KABUL): Some traders and entrepreneurs on Sunday asked the government to resolve the problem of inordinate delays in clearance of their goods by the custom officials.
At their second meeting, arranged by the Kabul Chamber of Commerce and Industries with cooperation of other institutions, the young traders urged immediate resolution of the issue.
The need for capacity building of the upcoming businessmen also figured at the meeting that lamented the lengthy process of customs clearance.
One of the participants, Maiwand, said: “We want the Ministry of Finance to look seriously into this nagging problem.”
The import of substandard products that directly affected Afghan traders was also discussed, said another trader, Mohammad Nasim. He asked the authorities to hike the customs duty on poor-quality imports.
Capacity of the rising entrepreneurs could be developed with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other organisations, said ACCI head for Kabul, Rahimullah Hamidi.
