LASHKARGAH/MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN militants have reportedly been killed during separate incidents in southern Helmand and central Maidan Wardak provinces, officials said on Saturday.
An ISAF airstrike pounded four vehicles carrying insurgents from Chahar Burak district of southwestern Nimroz province to Helmand’s Disho district, killing 45 of them, the media centre in Helmand said.
A notorious Taliban commander, Gulbaddin, was seriously wounded in the airstrike, but his accomplices took him away from the site.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident, but their spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi claimed heavy casualties were inflicted on Afghan and foreign forces during clashes and roadside bombs in Sangin and Musa Qala districts.
According to another report, six insurgents, including two Waziristanis, were killed and three others wounded during an overnight operation in central Maidan Wardak province.
The operation last night was conducted in Qatar Sang area where two Hezb-i-Islami (HIA) commanders, Zulfikar and Hashmatullah, were killed along with four other militants, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said.
Rahmat Shah alias Ghorzang was another Taliban commander arrested along with his two accomplices during an operation elsewhere in the province, he added.
