KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A verbal clash between election staff led to an altercation that left a senior official injured in southern Kandahar province, colleagues said on Wednesday.
Kandahar Independent Election Commission (IEC) chief Abdul Hadi told Pajhwok Afghan News his deputy Mohammad Rahim Ahmadi was injured a day earlier when other officials beat him after a verbal clash.
Police have detained the officials responsible for beating Ahmadi and are interrogating them. Another IEC official said some staffers wanted to hire their friend, but Ahmadi opposed.
He said those who thrashed Ahmadi were Abdul Samad Jan, Shah Wali and Toryalai. When contacted, Ahmadi refused to comment on the matter.
