KHOST CITY (PAN institutes would be built and reconstructed in southeastern Khost province.
Inaugurating a newly-constructed mosque in Tanai district, Abdul Jabbar Naeemi told Pajhwok Afghan News the mosques and centres to be reconstructed included mosques and seminaries.
Naeemi said he had asked some Islamic countries to extend financial support for the reconstruction of these centres, which played a crucial role in keeping alive Islamic values and improving the community.
The governor hoped for the construction affairs to be extended to all parts of the province. There are about 2,000 mosques across the province and most of them need to be repaired.
Hajj Izharuddin said about 350 mosques and madaris needed to be repaired or reconstructed. He suggested a gradual reconstruction plan, saying all mosques and seminaries could not be reconstructed simultaneously.
He added the government had been less interested in reconstructing religious schools in the past, but now it considered their rehabilitation as an important goal to be achieved.
Education officials said there are more than 20 seminaries registered with the education department, but a dozen of the schools have been closed for different reasons.
Education Director Bakht Noor Bakhtiar said that most madaris needed to be reconstructed.
Haji Gul Rahman, a resident of the area where the governor opened the new mosque, said they had no mosque in their village and had to offer prayers at home.
