KANDAHAR (PAN): Around 905 million afghanis has been generated through taxes collected from local industries, businesses and traders this year in the southern Kandahar province— as compared to 836 million afghanis last year, an official of revenue department said.
Haji Azizullah, Kandahar revenue department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News his department achieved a sharp increase of collecting 69 million afghanis this year.
The officials were faced with some hurdles during tax collection drive as some shopkeepers of Kandahar city did not pay taxes, he remarked.
A custom office had recently opened in the middle of the city in a move to facilitate shopkeepers to pay their taxes, he said, adding Kandahar revenue department was assigned the task to collect revenue of other zones such as Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul.
He informed construction work on new building for revenue department had been expedited which would help accelerate tax collection campaign.
As many as 200 officials had been working in the provincial custom department, he said, adding services of 35 more employees would be hired through an open competition soon.
He expressed optimism that his department was doing commendable job and tax collection efforts would be expedited after new recruitment.
