KABUL): Intelligence agents have detained five suspects in connection with the killing of the rural rehabilitation and development director for northeastern Kunduz province, the spy service said on Sunday.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said the detainees had confessed to their crimes and the investigation was underway.
However, the statement did not identify the detainees and the date and place of their detention.
Kunduz rural rehabilitation and development head Eng. Shafiqullah Alamyar had been kidnapped along with his brother by unknown gunmen on their way from Baghlan to Kunduz about a month ago.
The kidnappers killed Alamyar’s brother soon after the abduction and murdered Alamyar 11 days later.
The NDS statement also said an illegal gunman and a drug smuggler have been arrested during an operation in Pul-i-Hesar district of Kunduz.
Two cars, a pistol and 52kg of hashish were seized from the detainees, it added.
