FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Agriculture’s spring plantation campaign.
Agriculture Director Abdul Manan Matin told Pajhwok Afghan News they had prepared 30,000 fruit-bearing and one million non-fruit bearing saplings for the campaign.
The fruit-bearing plants included apricot, peach and others, which would be distributed to farmers free of cost in Bala Bulok, Pusht Rod, Pusht Koh, Shibko and Jawin districts before being trained on how to sow the plants, the official said.
He said the drive was aimed at promoting the culture of tree plantation and adding to the beauty of the province environment. Most of the seedlings would be sown in front of the Agriculture and Live Stock Department, around the Municipality Department and other areas of Farah City, Matin said.
Forests controlling authority chief in Farah, Abdul Jabbar, said seedlings for the campaign had been grown on farms belonging to the agriculture department in two years ago at a cost of $40,000.
Agriculture officials say 65,000 non-fruit and 15,000 fruit bearing seedlings were planted in Farah last year.
