KABUL Infrastructure Trust Fund (AITF) to date.
Established in 2010, the AITF is a multi-donor trust fund administered by the Asian Development Bank to coordinate donor assistance for infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.
The American government is one of the largest contributors to the AITF, with $417.6 million planned for energy infrastructure, according to a statement from USAID.
USAID Mission Director William Hammink said: “US government’s contribution to this fund is just one example of our long-term commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s development.
“Our partnership with the Asian Development Bank provides an important mechanism for improving the lives of the Afghan people and driving Afghanistan’s economic growth.”
Of the $417.6 million the US government has planned for the AITF, approximately $288 million has been designated for the completion of the Kabul-Kandahar transmission line from Ghazni to Kandahar, including five substations.
