KABUL (Pajhwok): The nation is oberving today a day of mourning for victims of the massive landslide tragedy in northeastern Badakhshan province.
More than 21,000 people were confirmed dead and hundreds left missing after a massive landslide buried an entire village in the Aab Barik area of Argo district on Friday.
A day earlier, President Hamid Karzai announced May 4 as a day of mourning over the catastrophy. The national flag is flying half-mast in offices across the country and Afghan diplomatic missions around the world.
The president has expressed his deep sorrows over the catastrophe and urged all countrymen as well as aid organisations to help the victims. Headed by Vice-President Karim Khalili, a high-level delegation has been sent to Badakhshan to provide assistance to the victims and present its report to Karzai.
