TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Dozens of Afghan Local Police (ALP) officials in central Uruzgan province have abandoned their check-posts, taking away government vehicles and weapons, an official said on Wednesday.
Haji Abdul Karim, administrative chief of Khas Uruzgan district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 70 to 80 ALP personnel had deserted their posts. They have reportedly fled to Hazarajat to join a warlord.
The deserters had been recruited by Hakim Shujaee, a former ALP commander, he alleged. Karim explained it was the second time the ALP personnel had fled with vehicles and weapons.
The governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Naib, confirmed the incident but gave no details.
Separately, the bodies of two border police officials were recovered in Gizab district. Dr. Abdullah, the district chief, said Taliban had killed the officials after kidnapping them.
