JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A senior security officials said on Tuesday more check posts would be established in areas close to the border region to bolster law and order ahead of June 14 runoff vote.
Maj. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Waziri, commander of 201st Selab military corps, said security forces had the duty to make security invincible for the fast-approaching second round of ballot.
He expressed these views at a meeting arranged to review security situation in the country ahead of the runoff election.
“The Afghan National Army (ANA) will focus to maintain security and not to interfere in ballot process. We are sure election will be completed in a peaceful way,” he added.
Gen. Muhammad Zaman Mamozai, commander of the 301 border zone, said his forces had adopted strict measures in line with the second round of presidential election.
The voters would be provided with peaceful environment to cast their votes in fear-free situation.
Nangarhar Governor Maulvi Attaullah Ludin said provincial authorities should work hard to ensure that polls were held in free, fair and transparent manner.
Brig. Gen. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad, provincial police chief, said his forces had conducted several pre-polls offensives to improve security for peaceful election.
