LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A district chief has been wounded in a Taliban attack in southern Helmand province, a well-placed security source said on Friday.
The insurgents, having dug up a tunnel to an Afghan National Army checkpoint in Sangin district, attacked the military post last night.
ANA officer Javed and Sangin district’s administrative head Suleman Shah were wounded in the assault on the Shakar Shella post.
According to the source, the officials were wounded as soon as they arrived at the scene in support of the soldiers manning the checkpoint.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmad claimed eight soldiers were killed and 15 others injured in the attack. The fighters had seized three military posts in the area, he said.
