KABUL, a report said on Monday.
The powerful millers, believing India’s subsidised wheat exports would have an adverse impact on their business in Afghanistan, are mounting pressure on the government to preempt the move.
Dawn reported the Indian government had offered Afghanistan subsidies on farm inputs and exports. It quoted flour millers as saying that India’s per tonne of wheat cost Rs500 less than the Pakistani variety.
“It’s bound to tilt the competitive edge in favour of Indian wheat and Pakistan would lose its traditional market that consumes over half a million tonne of flour from Pakistan,” the newspaper added.
