JAWZJAN (Pajhwok): At least seven Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel and five insurgents have been killed and nine others wounded during a clash in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Sunday.
Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News a group of 200 armed militants stormed police posts in the Jarquduq area of Qushtapa district on Saturday night.
Police, he said, had repulsed the attacks, in which seven APL men and five insurgents were killed. Another four policemen and five rebels were wounded in the gun-battle.
After the bloody clash, Afghan National Army (ANA) launched a clearing operation to purge the area of anti-state elements.
As usual, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed credit for the attack and said that 12 policemen had been killed and four others wounded in the overnight clash.
