KABUL’s relations with regional nations, the Presidential Palace said.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Amin Madani met President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah in Kabul and felicitated the two leaders on the formation of the unity government.
OIC being apolitical organisation that was trusted by a majority of Muslim nations could play an effective role in cementing Afghanistan’s relation with other countries, Madani remarked.
He added peace and stability was a necessity for Afghanistan’s development.
Ghani stressed the need for coordination among Islamic countries in dealing with challenges across the region and West Asia. He welcomed OIC’s peace efforts in Afghanistan.
CEO Abdullah expressed gratitude for the assistance offered the organisation. “Having a unity government, a member of OIC, we can work together on many daunting challenges including the peace process.”
OIC has 57 member states including Afghanistan and its secretary-general is visiting Afghanistan for the first time since the inauguration of the incumbent administration on Sept. 29
