LASHKARGAH/MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Eight militants, including a dreaded commander, have been killed and three others detained in by security forces in Helmand and Maidan Wardak provinces, officials said on Wednesday.
Farid Ahmad Obaid, the Helmand police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the army and police jointly conducted an offensive in the Sistani area of Marja district late on Tuesday. Four militants, including Abdul Rehman, a notorious Taliban commander, were killed in the firefight.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasool Zazai, spokesman for the 215th Maiwand Military Corps, confirmed the security forces had conducted operation in Sangin district. Four militants were killed in the clash, he said, adding but security forces remained unhurt during the hours’ long clash.
In Maidan Wardak, three Taliban were detained while smuggling drugs and explosives, Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, said. One of the detained men was a former policeman, who has joined Taliban’s ranks.
