Angiza’s death saddens president, CEO

KABUL (Pajhwok) President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Monday expressed their grief and sorrow over the demise of a female Nangarhar provincial council member, Angiza Shinwari.

Shinwari was seriously injured in a bomb blast attached to her car in Jalalabad on Wednesday last. Her driver was killed while Shinwari and five high schoolchildren were wounded the blast.

Naveed Shinwari, a cousin of the slain politician, said she succumbed to her injuries last night in the Mohammad Duad Khan Hospital in Kabul at around 12am.

The Presidential Palace issued a statement saying the president was saddened by Shinwari’s death and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.

The Presidential Palace said Shinwari had served as a representative of Islamic Sciences and was an active supporter of women’s rights. She wrote poems, worked as journalist and had been serving her community as their representative in the Nangarhar provincial council, the statement said.

It said the Afghans would not forget the services Shinwari had contributed to her people and she would be regarded as a brave woman in Afghan women’s history.

Dr. Abdullah and Atta Mohammad Noor, the acting governor of northern Balkh province, also expressed their grief and sorrow over her death.

Nangarhar acting governor Maulvi Attaullah Lodin also condoled with her family.

Khost provincial council members condemned the bomb attack on the female representative and asked the government to investigate the incident.

Khost PC head Amirullah Zara Swand told Pajhwok Afghan News that the ongoing violence in Afghanistan was aimed at weakening the Afghan government.

Attacking people’s representatives would not solve problems, but create more challenges for the people, he said.
