KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of gold dipped but that of flour increased during the outgoing week in the capital Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.
Mohammad Fawad, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of one gram of Arabian gold fell from 2,000 to 1,950afs and the Russian variety from 1,650 to 1,600afs.
Fazal Rahman, head of Food Traders’ Union, said the price of 50 kilograms of Pakistani flour increased from 1,240 afghanis to 1,260 afghanis. He linked the hike to increased demand.
One kg of Vietnamese green tea was priced at 180afs, the same quantity of African black tea at 210afs, a 50-kg bag of Pakistani sugar at 1,520afs, a 16-litre tin of ghee at 980afs and 24kg of rice at 1,550afs — same as last week.
But a retailer in Taimani area, Ahmad Javed, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,300afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 1,700afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 2,100afs.
The prices of fuel also remained steady. A filling station worker in Wazirabad, Abdul Saboor, said one litre of diesel was sold for 46afs and the same quantity of patrol for 44afs.
Moneychanger Ahmad Shah Salehi said the buying rate of one US dollar was 57.75afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 564afs.
Last week’s exchange value of the dollar stood at 57.30afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 561afs.
