SHARAN (Pajhwok): Special Police Commander Azizullah Karwan and seven other policemen were wounded in an explosion in southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Tuesday.
Karwan was among the security officials who were accused of human rights violations in a recent Human Right Watch (HRW) report.
Nabiullah Pirkhel, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion targetting the police commander’s vehicle took place in the Goshti locality of Wazikhel district.
Two policemen are said to be in critical condition, while Karwan’s injuries are not life-threatening, according to the spokesman, who said the attack was being investigated.
As usual, the Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the police commander and seven others were wounded in the explosion.
Meanwhile, Karwan posted his photographs on his social media account, showing injuries to his legs. He wrote: “I have recovered and would get better soon.”
Hours earlier, Sheikhabad district police chief Col. Faizullah and two of his bodyguards were wounded in an overnight explosion.
