KABUL Cup in Sydney on Thursday.
By virtue of their convincing win over India, the Aussies will take on New Zealand in the final in Melbourne on Sunday. It is the first time the Kiwis have found their way to the final.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat on the spin-friendly patch in Sydney, amassing 328 runs in the stipulated 50 overs for the loss of six wickets — the highest-ever semifinal total in the World Cup history.
Steven Smith top-scored with 105 off 93 balls to lift his side to the imposing total, as Aaron Finch (81) lent him solid support. The partnership helped the Aussies cross the magic figure of 300 runs.
Indian openers started the innings with confident before Sheker Dhawan was dismissed at 76. The left-hander made 45 quick runs, with Dhoni smashing a quick-fire 65. He, however, could not save his side from defeat. The Indians were all out for 233 in 47th over.
