KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has received the “Distinguished Leadership Award” from the Atlantic Council at a special ceremony co-hosted by the United States Institute of Peace.
Speaking on the occasion on Wednesday, the president condemned the brutal killing of Farkhanda and said he would order an in-depth investigation into the issue and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Farkhanda, 27, was murdered by a mob last Thursday after she criticised a cleric for selling amulets. But people, who took part in or witnessed the incident, accused her of burning the Quran.
Pointing to the widespread participation of Afghans in the April 5 elections, Ghani said 38 percent of women participated in the polls in the hope of a better future.
