QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Five Taliban and a woman have been killed and two suspects arrested on charges of planning attacks on security forces in northwestern Badghis province, officials said on Tuesday.
Three Taliban were killed and as many border policemen wounded following a clash in Bala Murgab district, police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Rauf Taj, told Pajhwok Afghan News. One woman was also killed in the incident.
Col. Shah Rukh Shah, a senior border policeofficer, said the gunbattle was still underway in Murchaq village. Reinforcement would arrive soon in the area, he hoped.
The Anardara district chief in Farah province, Ghulam Farooq Akbar, said two Taliban were killed while collecting illegal tax in Kalata Elm Khan Valley. Their corpses have been taken to the police headquarters.
Separately, two more fighters collecting Ushr, (10th part of harvest)were killed by security forces in the same district, Akbar said. Two Kalashnikovs and as many motorbikes were seized by security forces, he added.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. ToryalaiAbdyani, claimed arresting two individuals with a pistol. He accused the detainees of planning attack security forces in the 2nd district police of Farah City.
Abdyanisaid Sergeant Eid Saleh, a member of the special police unitwho was captured by the Taliban during an operation in Shah Mubarak area of Pushtrod district last summer, had been released.
The release took place following efforts of police operatives and mediation from local elders, he added.
