‘Any side opposing peace to be dealt with under Sharia law’

KABUL Peace and Salvation Council on Monday asked all parties to the conflict to make peace otherwise the Afghans would recognise as “cruel” every side that opposed peace.

Gul Rahman Qazi, who heads the party, told a party gathering in Kabul that some world’s powers wanted to use Afghanistan for their own interests and turn Afghanistan into the stage for the world’s big wars. “So it makes it mandatory on us to initiate efforts for peace ourselves.”

Qazi called as crucial efforts at paving the ground for intra-Afghan dialogue to achieve peace and end the conflict, stressing the involvement of non-controversial mediators to broker a deal.

Addressing his party workers, he said: “For this purpose, we have evolved a resolution and you have the right to endorse or amend it.”

After a debate, some 300 participants of the gathering approved the resolution, in which all parties to the conflict have been urged to accept peace.

The resolution blamed both internal and external factors for prolonging the war in Afghanistan but said the internal factors should listen to the peace call because it was their own country burning in fire.

It said the Afghanistan Peace and Salvation party was first addressing the government, jihadi and political parties, various factions of Taliban Afghanistan and others who were party to the conflict and would later call on neighbouring countries and the international community to help Afghanistan achieve peace.

The resolution demanded ceasefire before the start of peace talks. “If any side at any moment denies participation (peace talks), the party will be considered as rebels from religious perspective and will be introduced to the nation as cruel and will be dealt with in accordance with Sharia law.”
