MAIMANA (Pajhwok):A district police chief was killed along with his driver in a landmine explosion in northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Tuesday.

Abdullah Masoomi, administrative chief of Khwaja Sabz Posh district, told Pajhwok Afghan News Lt. Col. Sakhi Dad Usmani was killed on Monday nightwhen the Taliban attacked the district centre and some security check posts.

“Usmani wanted to visit a check-post in support of security personnel during a firefight with rebels, but his armoured vehicle hit a roadside bomb on the way to the checkpoint.”

The bomb ripped through the vehicle, killing Usmani and his driver. A policeman was slightly wounded in the explosion, Masoomi added.

At least four Taliban insurgent were killed in the ensuing clash, the official continued. But there has been no word so far from the Taliban on the incident.
