KABUL, to shun violence and cooperate with the Afghans in bringing peace.
In a statement issued by his office, Karzai congratulated all Afghans and the Muslim world over celebrating the religious festival of Eidul Adha.
The former president said the war in Afghanistan, which benefitted outsiders and served their interests, was escalating with each passing day. He said the Afghans were victims of a war which had been imposed on them.
“So it is needed that with wisdom and care we should consider our national interests and rescue our beloved country from the wars and misfortunes,” said Karzai.
“I demand of all parties to the conflict to give up the violence and fratricide and instead work for ending the war and achieving peace. I once again urge the Taliban leadership to abandon war and cooperate with your nation in returning to peace in order to rescue our beloved country with resolute unity and harmony from outside interference and clutches.”
Karzai renewed his call for peace on Taliban at a time when the rebels have intensified their attacks in various parts of the country, including capital Kabul.
