KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday called on insurgent groups to renounce violence and join the reconciliation process, otherwise they will be suppressed.

The president congratulated the people of Afghanistan on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr during a gathering at the Palace after offering the Eid prayer.

“They [rebels] killed innocent people daily, it is a clear message to them you don’t have more time either join peace talks or face Afghan security forces response,” Ghani told groups mainly the Taliban fighting the Afghan security forces.

He said Afghan government reconciliation strategy was clear. “Militants and their supporters were isolated while Afghan government had the support of its people, Muslim ummah and the international community.”

Referring to the terrorist attacks in the holy month of Ramazan, the president said: “I congratulate Eid-ul-Fitr to all countrymen and women and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and Jannat for those killed and hope for the nation-wide peace and stability in the country.”

Being the commander-in-chief of armed forces the praised hailed troops on duty away from the family and friends and termed them the real heroes.

He said security forces have been protecting the country from the enemy and they should be praised for their efforts.

He said security plane for capital Kabul and a short-term economic development plane was ready and would be soon shared with the people.
