TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Ten insurgents have been killed and their wounded commander captured in a recently launched clearing operation in the capital of central Uruzgan province, officials said Wednesday.

Uruzgan acting police chief Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Sidiqi told reporters here that the operation had been launched to suppress the Taliban in Tirinkot, the provincial capital.

He said 10 rebels had been killed so far during the offensive and a Taliban commander named Mardan was detained in wounded condition.

He said the commander was currently under treatment and would be referred to judicial organs shortly after his recovery.

According to him, the operation also resulted in the reopening of the Hararud -Tirinkot highway for traffic.

Sidiqi once again called upon the Taliban militants to take the path of peace instead of war.

There has been so far no word from insurgents in this regard.
