KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Parts of the Kunduz-Sher Khan Port Road, which connects Afghanistan with Tajikistan, have damaged and need repair, local representatives and drivers said on Thursday.
They said due to negligence, the vital Kunduz-Sher Khan Port road had become bumpy. Ramin, a driver, accused officials of paying no attention to the road’s condition.
“Due to poor condition of the road, I travel on the rough side to save my vehicle.” He said government paid no attention to rehabilitating the road. The remaining road would be also damaged if not rehabilitated on emergency basis, the driver said.
Another driver, Bashir, also complained about the road’s rundown condition and said the government, specially Public Works Ministry, had never tried to rehabilitate the road.
Provincial Council (PC) Head AmruddinWali also criticized current condition of Sher Khan Port-Kunduz Road and accused authorities concerned, specially Public Works Department, of negligence.
“The most important transit road that connects Afghanistan with Tajikistan has been in a poor condition, it shows the irresponsible attitude of officials. No effort has been made to rehabilitate this road or keep it from further damage,” said Wali.
Public Health Department in Kunduz did not reject the dilapidated condition of Kunduz-Sher Khan Port Road and said the road’s rehabilitation has been started and would be completed in three days.
