MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Eight Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel have been killed in a Taliban attack in northern Balkh province, an official said on Monday.
Acting police chief for Chahar Bolak district Mohammad Din told Pajhwok Afghan News militants stormed a police check-post in Aliabad area late on Sunday night.
He said eight policemen and one militant were killed in the ensuing firefight, which left two others wounded.
Haji Isa Khan, a tribal elder, confirmed the clash that lasted till morning. Civilians suffered no casualties, he said, verifying the ALP fatalities.
Deputy police chief Abdul Razzaq Qaderi also confirmed the gunbattle, but did not give details. The Taliban have not yet commented.
