PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A district police chief was killed and two policemen were wounded as a result of a magnetic bomb blast in central Logar province on Monday.
Wais Abdul Rahimzai, the Baraki Barak district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast took place in Sherwazi area at around 9am.
He said district police head Sabir Khan wanted to inspect a security check-post in the district. On the way to the post, a bomb attached to his pick-up went off.
Police spokesman Shahpur Ahmadzai confirmed the district police chief was killed and two policemen were wounded. An investigation into the incident was underway, he added.
Yousaf Khan, a tribal elder, also verified the death of Sabir Khan. However, he was unaware of details of the incident, for which the Taliban claimed responsibility.
The insurgent group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that commander Sabir Khan and some of his colleagues were killed in the blast.
