FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Agriculture province say their assessment shows fruit harvests would double this year as compared to the previous year.
Abdul Zahir Tawan, director gardening program at the Agriculture Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News they cultivated different types of fruit plants on 3.5 acres of land and recently collected 19,000 kilograms of fruits from the trees.
He said their expectation was to collect 55,000 kilograms of fruits during the ongoing year. He said mostly apple gardens existed in Tiwara and Shahrak districts of the province.
Tawan expressed his happiness over the good condition of fruit gardens and the harvests would be exported to other provinces as well.
Farmers happy about increase in fruits yield this year
Ahmad Shah, a grower in Alandar village of Firozkoh City, the provincial capital, said with cooperation of the provincial agriculture department, he planted gardens of apple and peach almost five years back and the harvests were satisfactory this year.
He urged the agriculture department to facilitate growers in getting some professional training.
Abdul Maroof Karimi, another farmer, told Pajhwok that he had planted 500 trees on his land and he collected 10kg of fruits from each.
A number of other farmers held similar views and urged the agriculture department to provide more assistance to them.
