KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will build houses for 100 displaced families in southern Kandahar province.
Dr. Shakir, an official of the UNHCR in Kandahar, held out the promise during a meeting with Deputy Governor Haji Agha Lalai Dastagir.
Shakir said the UNHCR would construct houses for 100 displaced and war-affected families in the province. Each of the homes, to be built in Dand district, will have two rooms and a kitchen.
He added UNHCR teams had conducted a survey to identify deserving families. He sought cooperation from the governor house in this regard.
Dastagir hailed the programme as a fruitful measure, pledging maximum possible transparency in the process.
The official urged UNHCR’s cooperation in building a township for relatives of martyrs.
On average, 10 to 15 refugee families return home through the Spin Boldak border crossing in Kandahar.
The Refugee and Repatriation Affairs Department is responsible for ensuring shelter for returning families.
