KABUL, the BBC reported on Monday.

Civilian killings in Afghanistan and Iraq were covered up by the British government and military– an allegation rejected by the Ministry of Defence in London.

Operation Northmoor, which investigated war crime allegations in Afghanistan, was closed by the UK government in 2017.

Despite the investigations, no one has been prosecuted yet in connection with the alleged war crimes by the British forces.

The BBC quoted the ICC as saying it had taken the accusations very seriously. “The ICC said it would independently assess the BBC’s findings and would begin a landmark case if it believed the government was shielding soldiers from prosecution.”

Earlier in the week, a BBC-led investigation claimed having evidence of the UK government trying to cover up civilian killings, including children.

However, the Ministry of Defence in London spurned the allegations as baseless.
