KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A square in the capital of southeastern Khost province was named on Friday after a slain Japanese physician.
Tetsu Nakamura, known for his aid work in Afghanistan and elsewhere in South Asia, was shot dead along with five others in Jalalabad on Wednesday.
In recognition of his services for Afghanistan, provincial authorities named a square in Khost City after the Japanese-funded NGO head.
Abdul Wahid Patan, the governor’s spokesman, said: “We have taken the step to acknowledge Nakamura’s services and show solidarity with the Japanese people.”
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the slain physician had selflessly served the people of Afghanistan and his killers would be brought to justice soon.
Civil society activist Bostan called the killing of Nakamura a huge loss for Afghanistan. He extended his condolences to the people of Japan.
