MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Local officials in northern Faryab province say the commander of the security unit guarding the Aqina port customs office has been killed.
An official told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Maj. Aziz Rahman, the unit commander, fired a custom department guard, who wanted to enter the director’s office.”
The injured guard opened retaliatory fire and killed the commander on the spot, said the official, who pleaded for anonymity.
Dortaj Khaliqi, the administrative chief for Khanchar Bagh district, said Rahman wanted to enter the customs office with his weapon but he faced opposition from a guard.
He said Rahman shot injured the guard, who gunned down the commander.
Ahmad Jawad, head of the Aqina customs office, said the unit commander initially warned the guard with his pistol.
Later on, Rahman shot injured the guard. In self-defence, the injured guard opened fire at the commander and killed him.
The custom head was unaware of the motive behind the commander’s action, believed he had come to the office for a second time to kill the guard.
