KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of rice, cooking oil, gold increased in Kabul last week when the rates of sugar, Kazaqi flour decreased, market sources said on Saturday.
Mohammad Tawab Ghaznavi, owner of Zamzam Food Store in Khoshal Khan area, said the wholesale price of a 24-kilogram bag of rice increased from 2,300 to 2350 afghanis and a 16-litre Al Hayat Oil kin from 1,450 to 1,650 afghanis.
He linked the surge in prices of cooking oil and rice to the increase in demand. He, however, said today (Saturday) the price of 49-Kazaki flour dipped from 1,850 afghanis to 1,800 afghanis, 50-kilogram of Pakistani sugar from 2,250 afghanis to 2,200 afghanis.
He said the prices of these commodities dipped in countries from where it was imported.
The price of one-kilogram of green team and one kilogram of black tea remained steady at 320 and 350 afghanis.
But Mohammad Zaki, owner of a grocery store in Macro Ryan area, sold a 49-kilogram sack of Kazakh flour for 1,900afs, the same amount of Pakistan sugar for 2,300afs.
He sold a 24-kg rice bag for 2,500afs, 16 litres of Khurshid ghee for 1,450afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea for 320 afs and the same quantity African black tea for 360afs.
Over 12pc surge in gold price
Accoring Kabul jewelers’’ union, the price of one gram of Arabian gold surged from 2,850afs to 3,250 afs and the same quantity of the Russian variety surged from 2,250afs, to 2,500 afs.
The increase in gold prices in Kabul markets is linked to surge in its price in international markets.
Fuel prices unchanged
According to Ahmadyar Group of Companies, the prices of fuel remained stable as one litre of petrol was sold for 35afs and the same quantity of diesel for 38afs.
Mohammad Zarif, a liquefied gas seller in Pul-i-Pach area, said the price of one kilogram of the commodity was 40afs — same as last week.
Currency exchange rate
According to the Money Exchangers Union of Sara-i-Shahzada, the purchase value of one US dollar was accounted for 76.80 afghanis while 1,000 Pakistani rupees valued at 472 afghanis.
aLast week, the value of one dollar was accounted for 76.55 afghanis while 1,000 Pakistani rupees exchanged for 477 afghanis.
