KABUL or Upper House of the parliament has approved government draft bill for 17 billion Afghanis loan, a statement said on Sunday.
The draft bill for 17 billion afghanis loan from the International Monitory Fund (IMF) for combatting coronavirus was presented to the house by the International Relations Commission of the Mesharano Jirga and was approved by members, the statement said.
Senators, however, expressed their concerns over corruption in fight against coronavirus and said: “The government should take effective step to curb corruption and provide explanation regarding the transparent expenditures of funds.”
It is worth mentioning that the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of the parliament last month rejected government demand for billions of Afghanis loan from the government.
The Wolesi Jirga Finance and Budgetary Commission said that conditions for the loan were easy, adding that it was in the interest of Afghanistan.
But lawmakers said that government should be held accountable for $800 million dollars of funds provided by the international community to Afghanistan.
Fresh amendments were also presented to the lower house in the budget, but lawmakers demanded that government should refer these amendments in line with article 98 of the constitutions.
