KABUL prisoners have been released from jails and the process will continue to build trust ahead of intra-Afghan talks, an official said on Tuesday.

Javid Faisal, spokesperson for the National Security Council (NSC), told reporters here that Afghan government strived to facilitate intra-Afghan talks and the release of prisoners is one of the tangible efforts of the government in this regard.

He said Afghan government was fully ready for intra-Afghan talks and recalled the release of nearly 3,000 prisoners from government jails was to build trust ahead of peace dialogue.

Faisal said 277 security personnel had been freed from the Taliban captivity so far and asked the Taliban free all captive security personnel and civilians to help the peace process and built trust.

He asked the Taliban to reduce violence to pave the way for intra-Afghan talks.

This comes that the Taliban claimed freeing 450 government inmates, but the NSC said 277 captive security personnel had been freed by the Taliban so far. Faisal said the remaining prisoners were civilians.

Intra-Afghan talks are set to begin after the process of 6,000 prisoners from both sides gets completed.

The High Reconciliatory Council Chairman Abdullah Abdullah said that intral-Afghan talks may start in two-week time.

US Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation Process Zalmay Khalilzad said that the time and place for intra-Afghan talks were being discussed with the government and the Taliban.
