KABUL’s shelling that has caused in civilian casualties in eastern Kunar province.
The rights watchdog vehemently denounced rockets strikes into Kunar by Pakistan forces and urged the government to defend the people, prevent civilian’ casualties and put an end to artillery attacks in an appropriate way.
According to media reports and eyewitness accounts, Pakistan forces fired 12 rockets into Sarkano district and Asadabad, the provincial capital, on Wednesday afternoon.
The shelling resulted in the killing of seven civilians, including a woman and a child, and injuries to six others. The rocket strike also caused material losses.
In a statement, the AIHRC said eight civilians were killed last year while nine ordinary individuals had fallen prey to rocket attacks by Pakistan forces over the first six months of the ongoing year in Kunar.
The commission expressed deep concern over the civilian casualties in Kunar and stressed the need for the protection of the people — a duty of the government.
The statement asked the government to put an end to Pakistani rocket strikes into Kunar in an effective way and ensure security in Kunar.
