KABUL and Kabul’s plans in this regard.

Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Investment Minister Sardor Umurzakov, who arrived in Kabul on Tuesday, held out the promise at a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani.

The two sides discussed ways of further boosting bilateral, economic and trade ties as well as cultural cooperation, the Presidential Palace said.

The visiting Uzbek delegation attended a ceremony that marked the National Day of the Uzbek language in Afghanistan at Ghani’s office.

“After more than 100 years of distance, today Afghanistan and Uzbekistan enjoy strong ties,” Ghani said at the ceremony.

He added: “Afghanistan has always had historical, cultural and economic relations with Central Asian nations. The relations are growing with each passing day.”

The visiting deputy prime minister also met acting Foreign Affairs Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The Uzbek delegation signed cooperation agreements with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock and the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled.
