KABUL (Pajhwok): Renowned Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona has lost his life to a heart attack, Reuters reported.

The 60-year-old, who underwent emergency surgery for a subdural haematoma several weeks ago, suffered the heart attack at his home Buenos Aires.

As news of Maradona’s demise spread, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez announced three days of national mourning.

Former and present greats, Pele of Brazil and Lionel Messi of Argentina lamented the loss of Maradona. They hailed late footballer as “eternal”.

Messi wrote in his Instagram post: “A very sad day for all Argentines and football.” He believed Diego would long be remembered.

Maradona’s zenith came in 1986 when he led Argentina to win the World Cup. The nadir in his career occurred in the 1994 World Cup when he was ousted for doping.
