Girls partake in Kabul cycling race to support security forces

KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of girls from different provinces of the country on Thursday participated in a cycling race in capital Kabul to support Afghan security forces.

Twenty-five girls from Bamyan, Faryab, Ghazni and Kabul attended the contest which commenced from Afghanistan Olympic Committee’s compound in Chaman-i-Huzuri area of Kabul and ended at Qarghai Lake, which is around 20 kilometers.

Mohammad Hussain Hamidi, head of Afghanistan Cycling Federation, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the aim of the race was to support Afghan forces and make preparations for foreign competitions.

“Our aim is tell the public to prevent drugs in our society,” he said, adding that the first position in the contest was secured by a cyclist from Faryab named Yaldoz Hashemi and the second position went to Raihana Mohammadi, a contestant from Bamyan.

Hamidi said that the federation would send 15 trainers to provinces in 2021 to train players for the game.

Yaldoz Hashemi, who secured the first position, said that sports was one of a great opportunity for youths to show their activism amid lack of job opportunities for them in Afghanistan.

She said Afghanistan was known in the world due to the conflict but the sports community could represent their country in a better way.
