JALALABAD (Pajwhok): Family members and collogues of slain female workers in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday called for arrest and punishment of those involved in their assassination.

On Tuesday, unidentified gunmen shot dead three female workers of a private television channel in third police district of Jalalabad, the provincial capital.

Shahnaz Raufi, Saadia Sadat, and Mursal Wahidi were killed separately. The three females worked for Enikass TV channel dubbing drama series since last three years.

Mursal Wahidi, who was on her way home from the office was killed in the Qasba area of PD4, while Saadia Sadat and Shahnaz Raufi were on their way home from office were killed near their office.

The families of the victims on Wednesday called for the arrest of the murderers.

Rokhan, Mursal’s brother, after burying his sister, said his sister wanted to serve her country, learn and empower women’s voice, but an unknown enemy killed her and her dreams.

“My mother was ill; we did not have money for her treatment. Mursal took her three months salary in advance,” he said. “But before she could pay back, she was killed,” he added.

The uncle of Shanaz Raufi, another victim of the attack, said that her niece was the only person earning for her family and the reason she was working was her family’s poor economic situation.

Officials of Enikass TV said all personnel of the channel were facing security threats.

Eng. Zalmai Latifi, director of the TV, said that media outlets had worked a lot for protection of their personnel, but media workers were not safe outside of their work area and there was need for the government to take new measures on the regard.

Meanwhile, Nangarhar governor Ziaul Haq Amarkhil said he had ordered all security officials to arrest perpetrators and thoroughly investigate the incident, but if they failed, they should resign from their posts.

Nangarhar police chief on Tuesday had said that a person was arrested with a gun in relation to the incident, but the statements drew wide criticism from the public due to misinformation published by the police chief.

The attack was later claimed by Daesh or Islamic State (IS) militants.
