KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Monday said it administered Covid-19 vaccine to 33,690 Afghans including 360 media persons in 34 provinces of Afghanistan.

The vaccination drive in Afghanistan was launched February 23 and President Ghani at the inauguration ceremony had emphasized on just distribution of the vaccine.

The first Covid-19 positive case in Afghanistan was detected on March 15, 2020 and so far 55,854 Covid-19 positive cases, 2,454 deaths and 49,378 recoveries have been reported in the country.

Kabul received its first consignment of 500,000 doses Covid-19 vaccine on February 7, 2021 from India.

The MoPH in a statement said they had administered Covid-19 vaccine to 33,690 Afghans in 34 provinces of Afghanistan so far.

The source said the vaccine was administered to medical staff including 360 media persons and most individuals were vaccinated in the capital Kabul and the least were vaccinated in eastern Nuristan province — 4,519 and 160 individuals respectively.

MoPH says the vaccination drive would be accelerated in order to give the vaccine to all citizens on time.

The ministry said they began the vaccination drive after WHO approved the vaccine.

It is worth mentioning that today Afghanistan received 468,000 more doses of Covid-19 vaccine from India.
